“We realized that Shekou is home and we had to come back,” Albert Cabal, their lead singer and guitarist, tells me during an interview, “so we decided to invest in a bar.” It wasn’t long before a group of people who are now known as “MTG Friends” were pooling together their money to make this come true. By early 2015 however, an idea was gaining momentum. For over a year in 2014/early 2015, MTG found themselves floating around Guangdong province playing gigs wherever they could get them.
As long as The Stage Live Music is around, so too will Mind The Gap be. After eleven years of ingenuity, hard work, and kickass music, they’ve earned what most foreign musicians in China dream only of… a never-ending gig. Mind The Gap (MTG) is not only the longest playing foreign band in all of Shenzhen, they are the first foreign band to have secured themselves a home here in Shekou. UPDATE: As of May 17, 2016, Mind The Gap is no longer playing at The Stage.
